Boys & Girls Town of Missouri Receives $10,000 in Grants for Programming
St. Louis, Mo. (Sept. 27, 2007) – Boys & Girls Town of Missouri was awarded $10,000 in grants from the Deaconess Foundation and Pott Foundation.
The Deaconess Foundation grant will support Changing Prisms, a workshop program which focuses on the recovery issues of young women in out-of-home placement. The workshop launched in 2002 and takes place each summer at the St. James campus. The program brings together young women, ages 12-17 from Boys & Girls Town’s four campuses, with women from across the state of Missouri who have successfully met the challenges that face young women in today’s world.
The Pott Foundation grant will support programming for Boys & Girls Town’s School in the Wilderness. For six weeks, children from all campuses and in foster care take part in a one-week summer wilderness adventure at the 1,200-acre Meramec Adventure Learning Ranch in Steelville, Mo. The program provides educational and therapeutic activities designed to challenge children both physically and mentally and opportunities to learn teamwork and develop positive self-esteem.
“Boys & Girls Town is so thankful to the Deaconess Foundation and Pott Foundation for their support,” said Kathy O’Brien, vice president of Boys & Girls Town’s Eastern Region. “These grants will allow Boys & Girls Town to continue to provide outstanding therapeutic programs to the children we serve.”
The mission of the Deaconess Foundation is to improve the health of the St. Louis metropolitan community and its people. The agencies which Deaconess supports are dedicated to providing young people with all that they need to build strong starts and promising futures.
The Pott Foundation was established in 1963 by Herman T. Pott. The Pott Foundation is a nonprofit organization supporting children, education and health and human services organizations in the St. Louis metropolitan region. |
