St. James Public Schools Honored for Extraordinary Contribution
To The Care of Children by Boys & Girls Town of Missouri
St. James, Mo. (February 29, 2008) – Each year, Boys & Girls Town of Missouri recognizes individuals or groups at the annual board meeting who have made an extraordinary contribution to the care of children. St. James Public Schools received the special recognition award from Boys & Girls Town of Missouri at the agency’s annual meeting held on February 17.
Boys & Girls Town’s St. James campus school is accredited by the Missouri Department of Secondary and Elementary Education for the education of students with emotional distress, mental retardation, specific learning disabilities and other health impairments. The school offers a structured and specially designed educational program for grades one through 12.
Classes include math, science, language arts, social studies, character education and art. Students also learn social and life skills, and computer skills. All classes are taught by certified education teachers experienced in working with troubled youth. Residents benefit from small class sizes. Teachers are often assisted by qualified teachers’ aides, enabling even more individualized attention in the classroom.
Boys & Girls Town in St. James operates the campus school in cooperation with St. James Public Schools.
“St. James schools have helped us serve our kids with the best education possible,” said Vince Hillyer, agency president. “Whether it is sharing ideas and staff; creative problem solving; funding; or building new programs; St. James Public School District partners with us as equal advocates for all kids. Words cannot express our deep appreciation of this relationship of partnership and collaboration.” |
