Boys & Girls Town of Missouri Receives $21,500 Grant from The Herbert A. and Adrian W. Woods Foundation for Children’s Art Programs for the Children of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri
St. Louis, Mo. (March 11, 2008) – Boys & Girls Town of Missouri was awarded a $21,500 grant from the Herbert A. and Adrian W. Wood Foundation to support the Artistic Endeavors program for children served by Boys & Girls Town of Missouri.
Many of the children served by Boys & Girls Town of Missouri suffer from emotional and behavioral problems, commonly caused by abuse and neglect. These children and youth have benefited from a variety of artistic opportunities including performing art, painting, drawing, creating clay models and music. These activities, when provided in therapeutic, educational settings encourage children to communicate their feelings and emotions in ways that are often more effective than traditional counseling.
The grant will support art education and therapy programs in Boys & Girls Town of Missouri’s Eastern and South Central regions. Funds will go towards several areas of the Artistic Endeavors program including visits from local artists, academic curriculum and the Boys & Girls Town Youth Choir.
“We are very grateful for this generous contribution,” said Vince Hillyer, president of Boys & Girls Town. “The grant from Herbert A. and Adrian W. Woods foundation will shape young lives by introducing children to the arts in unique ways.” |
