Boys & Girls Town of Missouri Receives $7,500 Grant for Vocational Arts Program from Daimler Chrysler Corporation Fund for the Children of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri
St. James, Mo. (March. xx, 2008) – Boys & Girls Town of Missouri’s south-central region was awarded a $7,500 grant from the Daimler Chrysler Corporation Fund to support the Vocational Arts Program of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri.
Many of the children served by Boys & Girls Town suffer from emotional and behavioral problems, commonly caused by abuse, neglect and trauma. The Vocational Arts Program at Boys & Girls Town helps children learn the techniques of a trade within a therapeutic educational environment. Students study areas such as wood working, residential wiring, general plumbing, welding, auto mechanics and mechanical systems. During the program, they learn to apply newly acquired vocational and technical skills to real work situations As they develop new skills, they build self-esteem and confidence and begin to acquire occupational techniques that will help them lead positive, productive lives.
The grant will provide funds necessary for the continuation of this successful program. The gift from the Daimler Chrysler Corporation Fund will allow for the purchase of new tools, equipment and craft items for the children participating in the Vocational Arts Program.
“We are very grateful to The Chrysler Foundation for this generous contribution to our Vocational Arts Program,” said Vince Hillyer, president of Boys & Girls Town. “This grant will help the youth we serve learn hands-on skills that they will use to become tomorrow’s skilled workforce.” |
