Olivette Teen Achieves Eagle Scout Rank by Baking Cookies and Brownies
for Residents at Boys & Girls Town of Missouri
St. Louis (December 17, 2008) Aaron Varwig, sophomore at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through Boys Scouts of America. As part of his Eagle Scout project, Varwig baked treats for the residents of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri in St. Louis, who suffer from emotional and behavioral issues, often as a result of abuse and neglect.
Weekly, Varwig would deliver a tray of goodies for the residents. “I really like cooking,” said Varwig, “So baking made sense.” Varwig plans to attend culinary school after completing high school to become a chef.
“We are very grateful to Aaron and his contribution to our center this year. It is wonderful to see young members of our community willing to give back,” said Kathy O’Brien, regional vice president of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri. “It has been very fun to see our residents so excited to gobble up their baked goods every week.” |
