PARENTING LIFE SKILLS CENTER JOINS BOYS & GIRLS TOWN OF MISSOURI
SPRINGFIELD, MO (March 15, 2010) – Boys & Girls Town announced today the addition of the Parenting Life Skills Center to their Ozarks Family Resource Center in Springfield. Parenting Life Skills Center was formed in 1990 to address child abuse and neglect in Greene County. Since then, it has involved into one of the foremost parent and family education programs in Southwest Missouri and serves predominantly at-risk parents. Gary Johnson, current director of PLSC, will continue as director. The program will continue to operate from its office at 600 South Jefferson.
Currently, the Ozarks Family Resource Center provides services for children removed from crises, as well as emergency shelter for homeless youth. The addition of the Parenting Life Skills Center program will provide a parent and family component to the spectrum of services offered by the Center.
“Our goal is to give the families of Greene County the support and tools needed to survive the tough times we all could experience,” said Chip Wolf, regional vice president for Boys & Girls Town. “The key is not just reacting when family situations reach boiling points, but using targeted education to prevent those situations altogether.”
Parenting Life Skills Center provides parenting skill education for high-risk parents, pregnant and parenting teens, young adult parents, parents of teens, grandparents raising grandchildren, and families recovering from addictions. In 2009, the agency served more than 300 families.
“As a provider of parent education and family support programs, joining the Ozarks Family Resource Center affords us the opportunity to work with more families through innovative new approaches,” noted Johnson. “As we work collaboratively, I believe, families will experience better outcomes.” |
