BKD Foundation Sends Boys & Girls Town Kids to Summer Camp
SPRINGFIELD, MO (May 26, 2010) – Summer camp is an experience that generates memories that last a lifetime – if you are fortunate enough to go. Thanks to BKD Foundation, 14 kids from Boys & Girls Town of Missouri will get the opportunity to make their own memories.
Tucked away on 1,200 acres in Steelville, Mo., the Meramec Adventure Learning Ranch hosts School in the Wilderness for all the kids who are residing at and served by Boys & Girls Town campuses across the state. The outdoor experience includes classic summer camp staples such as water sports and hiking, and also boasts one of the largest high-ropes courses in the state complete with a 700-foot zip line.
School in the Wilderness offers more than traditional summer camp, as all activities are planned, executed and processed to accomplish therapeutic goals. These rigorous, yet exciting, activities help interrupt negative behavior patterns and provide children with the opportunity to adopt alternative behaviors and make better choices, leading to enhanced self-worth.
BKD Foundation is the charitable arm of BKD LLP, a Springfield-based CPA and advisory firm. Over the past nine years, the foundation has raised and distributed more than $4.2 million to not-for-profit organizations in the area. |
