The Ozarks Family Resource Center (OFRC) is an 11,000 square-foot home located on the Springfield campus that houses up to sixteen children ages birth through 17. This facility was built in April 2001 to address the critical shortage of emergency shelter beds and foster homes in the Greene County area, as reported in the 1997 Springfield News-Leader article, "Foster Kids: No place to go."
The OFRC includes a nursery, day care, nursing department, kitchen, internal courtyard and playground. Each room is monitored via a closed circuit TV and all components of the facility meet state licensing requirements for emergency child care.
The goals of this program are to provide short-term shelter services for Greene County children removed from crises, to keep children closer to their homes, to keep siblings together, provide psychological assessments to determine the best possible long-term placement for the children and also provide respite care for foster parents.
The OFRC offers a program for homeless youth, including emergency shelter, equipping them with job training, life skills, and connecting them with community resources.
