Woodland Spring Lodge - Therapeutic Long Term Residential Care

Boys & Girls Town of Missouri offers Woodland Spring Lodge therapeutic long term residential care for children ages 8 through 17 who are experiencing emotional and behavioral problems.  Behaviors may include depression, substance abuse, impulsivity, grief, anxiety and trauma — issues that interfere with the development of healthy, trusting relationships. We help children learn to trust and to sustain meaningful relationships which enable them to reconnect with their families.  Woodland Spring Lodge is a private not-for-profit organization organized under the laws of the State of Missouri and is fully accredited by The Joint Commission as a behavioral health residential program for children and adolescents.

Treatment Philosophy
Normally, as a child develops, the child learns to trust and form lifelong bonds with others.  Bonding is the basic building block of human relationships and essential to establishing friendship, work relationships, marriage, parenting and meaningful, moral participation in society.

The children we serve have experienced trauma that interferes with their ability to bond with others and to develop trusting, meaningful relationships. Our program helps children and families uncover the disruptions in the bonding relationship between child and parent. The child is then taught to understand inappropriate behaviors resulting from this disruption and master new ones.

Woodland Spring Lodge offers a cottage living environment based on trust. One-on-one interactions between child and staff provide the child with the experiences that lead to the development of positive and meaningful relationships.

Woodland Spring Lodge serves 13 boys and 13 girls in two cottages on a 40-acre setting. Our warm, friendly living environment enables staff to provide the personal attention, care and individual treatment each child needs.

All children receive an in-depth evaluation involving the child and family members. Our comprehensive team of cottage staff, therapists, teachers, psychiatric and nursing staff creates a treatment plan that matches each child’s needs. Each treatment plan is comprised of individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, psychiatric services, academics and outdoor education activities created for that child.

Family involvement is an important component of the treatment plan and includes family therapy, follow-up visitations, progress reviews and recommendations for after treatment care.

Individual Treatment Plan
One of the many strengths of our program is the care and detail to which the individual treatment plan for each adolescent is tailored to his or her specific treatment needs as identified during assessment and evaluation. Recovery treatment programming includes comprehensive information on alcohol and drugs, relapse prevention skills, and life skills that include problem solving, decision making, communication and anger management skills.

Daily residential structured activities include:
• Individual Counseling
• Group Counseling
• Group Education
• Family Counseling
• Recreational Activities
• Academic programming through our fully accredited on-site school.

Staff
Our staff offers the highest quality of personal, professional care. Our treatment team of licensed professionals includes a psychiatrist, nurse, therapists, substance abuse counselors, recreational staff, cottage life supervisors and trained youth care specialists.

Facilities
Our 12-bed cottages, one each for boys and girls, are nestled in a cozy, park-like area surrounded by woods and nature. The cottages are open and spacious and include individual bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining and laundry room, all designed to encourage the development of social, relationship and coping skills.
